Unit Justification

Hello everyone! πŸ’—

Here there are some previews of our learning situation, specifically from point 2 "justification of the unit"

This learning situation is based on the Order of 30 May 2023, which regulates the curriculum in the community of Andalusia. It makes sure that students acquire essential social skills through observation and practical application. The target audience is students from 7-8 years old, corresponding to the second level of the first cycle in primary education. At this stage, children develop basic ethical knowledge, making it an ideal time to introduce emotional concepts through real-world examples.

The inclusion of emotions and empathy in the curriculum is essential as it supports students’ personal and social development while aligning with language learning objectives. Understanding and expressing emotions help learners improve their communication, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills. This approach makes language learning more meaningful and promotes emotional intelligence, enabling students to connect more deeply with themselves and others. Recognizing and managing emotions in different contexts allows students to make real-life connections between language, behavior, and social interaction.

This topic contributes to several areas of knowledge. In language learning, it enhances students’ ability to express feelings, understand tone and intention, and engage in empathetic communication. In social sciences, it fosters understanding of human relationships, diversity, and cooperation. Moreover, it connects with artistic and creative expression, as students use drama, storytelling, or art to explore emotions and develop self-expression in authentic ways.

The activity also promotes key competences: communication competence by helping students express and interpret emotions clearly; personal, social, and learning-to-learn competence by encouraging self-reflection and empathy; and citizenship competence by fostering respect, tolerance, and positive interaction. Collaboration and problem-solving are strengthened as students discuss emotional situations, listen to others’ perspectives, and propose empathetic responses to real-life challenges.

This learning experience is designed to last two weeks, providing time for reflection, dialogue, and creative exploration of emotions and empathy through interactive and communicative activities.
