School television as an educational tool

Image
Hello everyone, welcome back to our blog!! πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹  After choosing school television as a resource for our final product, we wanted to do some research to discover technical information about its use. In recent years, the idea of creating a school television has gained attention as a way to combine digital creativity with educational goals. Academic research shows that educational television can be a powerful tool to support learning. Studies highlight that television used in educational contexts provides structured opportunities for students to express themselves and engage with real-world issues. For example, research from EdTech Hub emphasizes that educational television can foster motivation and participation when students are actively involved in producing content, rather than only consuming it. Also, research indicates that educational television can positively influence academic achievement, especially among disadvantaged students, when it is designed with clear pedagogic...

Lesson 2 overview

Image
Hello everyone! πŸ’— We are back with a second lesson — and this time we’re continuing our journey into emotions with the focus on the behaviours. To start this lesson we will use the picture book ,,The Colour Monster” by Anna Llenas. This book will guide children to recognise, name, and talk about feelings and also start recognise what actions might influence the feelings.  As the story is read by the teacher, children pause to think about what different feelings look like, how they might feel in their own bodies, and what they do when emotions get big or confusing. After that children will be given a writing worksheet to complete in pairs. In this way they will practice their writing skills.  The lesson will end with a reflection about digital safety. To get more familiar with our lesson we prepared a lesson plan.  Topic: Emotions & Behaviours Title: How do I handle my feelings? Objectives and goals: Define empathy → Discuss characters’ feelings in The Colour Monster...

Lesson 1 overview

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog!!πŸ‘‹πŸ’˜. Today we're going to explain lesson one of our learning situation. In our first lesson we will explore emotions through different activities that combine language learning and technology. We will begin by watching a short video from Inside Out to introduce the topic and help us think about how emotions are shown in everyday life. Then, we will use an emotional board to recognize and classify feelings, followed by an interactive practice with games where we will use the verb to be to describe emotions in English. Finally, students will take part in an Internet search activity to discover more examples of emotions and how they are expressed, making the lesson creative, engaging, and connected to real digital resources. Topic: Emotions & Feelings Title: How do you feel? Objectives and goals Enumerate emotions → Introduce and practice emotion vocabulary. Classify emotions → Sort basic vs. more nuanced emotions during vocabulary w...

Final product and school television

Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog! πŸ‘‹πŸ’– Today we reflected on how we decided at the idea of the final product. Initially, we wanted students to explore emotions and empathy through small group activities. Then we realized that creating a short video could be an effective way to represent emotional challenges using a technological resource. With the teacher's guidance, they will plan and record their videos, using their imagination and teamwork to make the situations realistic and meaningful. However, we also wanted to connect the final product to one of the project's topics: "make a proposal for digital school newspaper or school television". We thought it would be interesting for the videos created by the students to be part of a school television program. This way, the videos would not only be shared in class but could also be presented as episodes on a digital platform for the entire school community. This idea makes the final product more motivating. Stu...

Managing emotions in school

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog! πŸ’—πŸ’— Today we are going to learn more about the importance of teaching children how to manage their emotions. We have conducted an investigation by reading an evidence-based text, and we discovered several interesting ideas that we would like to share with you in this post. Emotional management is an essential component of the educational process and cannot be separated from the activities carried out in the classroom. For teachers, it is crucial to support children in how they identify , express , and regulate their emotions, since developing these abilities from an early age strengthens self-regulation processes that will be useful in situations requiring greater emotional control. In educational settings involving children, emotional management significantly contributes to their social and emotional development. Although emotions are part of human nature, they need to be reinforced through guided experiences and moments of reflection that...

Electronic Whiteboards and Its benefits

Image
Hello Guys!! ⭐️ Today we will be getting deep into the world of teaching with whiteboards, a very common and useful resource. We even used it in our first session!.  An electronic whiteboard is an excellent presentational device. It has the potential to do much more than only virtually every other classroom, it also provides a tool for interactive teaching and learning.  We call Interactive teaching a two way process wherein the teacher modifies her approach in response to the needs of the learners. The interactive teacher is keenly aware of the learners and their different learning styles. All good teachers are interactive teachers. It is not possible to teach effectively without interaction.  Interactive learning is also a two way process but the learner may be interacting with the teacher, with peers, with resources or with all three.  But, how can an electronic whiteboard support interactive teaching and learning? It is proved that computers have always stimul...

The use of videos as educational material

Image
Hello everyone! πŸ’– In our first session we worked with a short video clip from Inside Out. We chose this resource because it shows emotions in a very clear and engaging way, and it helped us start exercises about feelings. Now we want to share a more technical information about why using videos like this can be so effective in the classroom. Videos are part of IT tools that help students learn. They combine images, sounds, and stories, which makes it easier to understand ideas that can be abstract, like emotions. They also catch students’ attention and create a good starting point for discussion. Using IT in this way promotes digital literacy, encourages active participation, and creates opportunities for collaborative reflection. The case of Inside Out is a good example. The film presents emotions as characters (joy, sadness, anger, fear, and disgust) so students can visualize how feelings interact and affect behavior. This makes it easier for students to recognize how e...

Methodology of Our Learning Situation

Welcome back to our blog! πŸ‘‹πŸ’— In this entry we want to explain the methodological approach that has guided our learning situation. The chosen framework is Project-Based Learning (PBL), a dynamic pedagogy that places students at the center of the process, encouraging them to learn by doing, creating, and reflecting. PBL is not only about acquiring knowledge, but about engaging students in meaningful tasks that connect classroom learning with real-world contexts. It emphasizes active participation, collaboration, and the development of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and communication. Within PBL, we can distinguish four main forms : Problem-Based Work: Students solve authentic or simulated real-world problems, often framed by an open-ended question. Product-Based Work: Students design and create a tangible product, performance, or event. Use-Based Work: Students apply existing tools, instruments, or resources in practical contexts. Learning-Based Work: St...

Setting our goals

Image
Hello, and welcome back to the blog! πŸ’œ In our last post, we shared our goals, but achieving them required some previous work. So now we'll tell you about that process and reflect on it together. When we started defining the objectives for our learning situation, we realized how important it is to know exactly what we want students to achieve. Setting clear goals helped us organize our ideas and give meaning to each activity we designed. Instead of just thinking about what we wanted to do , we focused on what students should learn with our sessions. We chose to focus on emotions and empathy because they are essential skills for students' personal and social development. Therefore, our objectives aim to guide them through a progressive process, starting with recognizing emotions and continuing until they understand how these emotions influence their behavior and relationships. For example, before students can show empathy, they need to identify emotions in themselves and other...
