Why did we choose this topic?

Hello everyone! 💗 Today we´re going to explain you why we have chosen this topic and why do we think it is important to work on it in primary school.

We decided to create the learning situation about “Seeing through others’ eyes” because we think empathy and emotional communication are super important in our everyday lives. At school and outside of it, we often face moments when people don’t really understand each other, and that can cause some conflicts. 

So, with this project, we want the students to learn how to recognize and express our emotions better, and also understand what others might be feeling. Plus, we thought it would be great to learn all these emotion words in English (like happy, sad, angry, or bored) so we can talk about our feelings in another language while improving our English skills at the same time.

Hello everyone! 💗 We are back with a second lesson — and this time we’re continuing our journey into emotions with the focus on the behaviours. To start this lesson we will use the picture book ,,The Colour Monster” by Anna Llenas. This book will guide children to recognise, name, and talk about feelings and also start recognise what actions might influence the feelings.  As the story is read by the teacher, children pause to think about what different feelings look like, how they might feel in their own bodies, and what they do when emotions get big or confusing. After that children will be given a writing worksheet to complete in pairs. In this way they will practice their writing skills.  The lesson will end with a reflection about digital safety. Hello everyone! 👋 Today we want to share our next lesson, which focuses on empathy, emotions, and positive behaviour through the visualisation of the short film Joy and Heron . This activity helps children recognise feelings in others and understand different perspectives. We’ll start with a short discussion about empathy. Students answer questions like What does empathy mean? and How does it feel to show or receive empathy? They will look up the definition online to build interest and digital literacy. Next, they will watch The Joy Story: Joy and Heron . As they watch, children pay close attention to the characters’ expressions and actions. Afterwards, they answer a few questions to check their understanding and discuss how the dog showed empathy, why kindness matters, and some other questions. In our first lesson we will explore emotions through different activities that combine language learning and technology. We will begin by watching a short video from Inside Out to introduce the topic and help us think about how emotions are shown in everyday life. Then, we will use an emotional board to recognize and classify feelings, followed by an interactive practice with games where we will use the verb to be to describe emotions in English.
