Bilingual and Multilingual Projects with ICT Support

Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

Our learning situation focuses on emotions in the English subject, which is why we are working bilingually. By combining emotional education with language learning, students not only practice English but also develop socio-emotional skills that are essential for their personal growth. This approach makes the project meaningful, since emotions are expressed through a second language and supported by digital tools that enhance creativity and communication.

Evidence from bilingual and multilingual projects in Primary schools shows that ICT resources play a key role in making language learning more inclusive and engaging. Digital platforms, multimedia materials, and collaborative online tools provide authentic contexts where students can use more than one language to communicate ideas. These projects often involve activities such as creating digital stories, recording podcasts, or designing online presentations, which encourage learners to integrate language practice with creativity.

Research highlights several benefits of this approach. ICT support increases motivation and attention, as students interact with familiar digital formats. It also improves language acquisition by offering multimodal input like text, audio, and visuals that strengthen comprehension and memory. Also, multilingual projects foster intercultural awareness, helping students to value diversity and connect their learning with real-life experiences. Teachers benefit as well, since technology allows them to adapt materials to different linguistic levels and provide differentiated instruction.

The theoretical foundations of these practices are linked to constructivist and sociocultural learning theories, which emphasize active knowledge building and the importance of social interaction. ICT-supported bilingual projects align with these principles by creating collaborative environments where students learn from each other while using multiple languages. They also connect with the idea of translanguaging, where learners draw on their full linguistic repertoire to understand and express meaning.

In conclusion, bilingual and multilingual projects supported by ICT are powerful tools in Primary education. They combine language learning with digital literacy and cultural understanding, while also making lessons more dynamic and motivating. In our case, linking emotions with English through a bilingual project supported by technology helps students to express feelings, build empathy, and practice communication in a meaningful way.
