Working on Digital Competences
Hi everyone, and welcome back to our blog!! ๐
Today, we will show you how we have developed the five digital competences throughout the lessons of our learning situation. In today’s world, which is increasingly digital, these skills are essential for learning, communicating, and collaborating effectively. Throughout our lessons, we have worked on finding and managing information, sharing ideas and working together respectfully online, creating and editing digital content, protecting our devices and personal data, and solving problems using digital tools. These competences are not only important for academic success, but also for personal growth and navigating everyday life. For this reason, we have actively applied and practiced them in meaningful ways throughout our lessons, helping us become more confident and responsible digital citizens.
In Lesson One we mainly work on the area of Information and Digital Literacy, since students are guided to search, filter, evaluate, and organize information in digital environments. Through the final activity, they learn how to use safe search engines, distinguish relevant results from irrelevant ones, and store their findings in a shared digital board for later use. This helps them develop the ability to manage information responsibly and effectively. At the same time, the lesson also works on Communication and Collaboration, as students work in pairs, share their discoveries, and practice respectful interaction while using online tools. In this way, the lesson combines emotional education with language practice and digital skills, ensuring that children not only learn new vocabulary but also acquire essential competences for navigating technology in a safe and meaningful way.
In Lesson Two we also focus on the area of Security, which is an essential part of digital competence. This includes learning how to protect personal data, devices, and both physical and psychological health when using technology. Students are guided to become aware of online risks and threats, such as sharing passwords or personal information, and to understand the importance of privacy policies and responsible use. By connecting emotional education with digital safety, the lesson helps children recognize that caring for themselves and others also means respecting privacy, protecting devices, and using technology in ways that are safe and healthy.
In Lesson Three, students develop Information and Digital Literacy by searching online to define empathy and selecting reliable information to answer questions. In addition, they practice Problem-Solving by deciding how to use digital functions like pause, rewind, or replay to clarify or confirm their understanding of the movie scenes.
In Lesson Four, students develop Problem-Solving by identifying and solving technical or organizational challenges during the filming process, such as adjusting camera positions or repeating takes when something goes wrong. They practice Digital Content Creation by planning, scripting, and producing their videos, applying creativity and digital tools to communicate their ideas clearly. Finally, Communication and Collaboration are strengthened through the use of Google Docs to brainstorm and share ideas, discuss which concepts to include in the story, and work together effectively as a team throughout the project.
In Lesson Five, students develop Communication and Collaboration by sharing constructive feedback in a teacher-moderated forum, discussing ideas with peers, and working together to reflect on the videos. They also practice Digital Safety by recalling and applying rules for respectful and secure online behavior while posting comments, ensuring that their feedback is appropriate, responsible, and protects their own and others’ digital wellbeing.
